Each API key has a per-minute request limit. The default is 120 requests per minute; GET /me reports the exact figure for your key as rate_limit_per_minute.
When you exceed it
The API returns 429 rate_limited with a Retry-After header, in seconds, telling you when the current window resets.
How to handle it
- Read
Retry-Afterand wait that long — do not retry immediately. - Use exponential backoff with jitter on top for repeated 429s.
- Batch where possible:
POST /contacts/bulkmoves many contacts in one request instead of one call per contact. - Page with a larger
limitrather than making many small requests.
Important notes
The limit is per key. Splitting a workload across several keys to dodge the limit is not supported and can trip abuse protection.
